Friday Night Raffles at The Parap Tavern
Support the Club and enjoy Friday night drinks at The Parap Village Tavern between now and the end of May where we hold our weekly Raffles from 5pm.
The quality meat trays are provided by Fannie Bay Gourmet Meats, another great supporter of our Club.
Club stalwart Lepani Nabuliwaqa, along with new recruits Seveti Walai, Apisai Basaga and Setariki Vakarewa have taken the lead on the Friday night raffles from fellow club legend Danny Kirk who did the hard yards last year.
The Fijian boys led by Lepani have had some cracking results with record breaking amounts, including notching over $600 on some weeks. There is more organisation to the Raffles than one might think, with the boys needing to order the goods, collect the meat trays from Fannie Bay Gourmet Meats, run the raffles for the 2-3 hours, reconcile and do the banking. Thank you Lepani and your team, you are doing us all proud!
Anyone keen to help out can contact the club at rugby@southdarwin.com.au
Wallaroos selection for former South Darwin
Congratulations to former South Darwin Rugby Union 10’s players, Caroline Vakalahi and Mollie Gray who have been selected in the Australian women’s Wallaroos team for the 2014 World Cup in France.
Both Caroline and Mollie played for Souths in the 2010 Women’s NTRU 10’s season and are currently playing with the Australian Services Rugby Union team. Whilst in Darwin they were both working in the Defence Force, but still managed to play a number of games for Souths, with Mollie playing most of the 2010 season and going on to win Best and Fairest in the same year.
Their selection follows solid performances in the 2013 National Women’s Rugby Championship in Sydney.
The South Darwin Women’s Rugby preparations are underway for this season with training to commence this Thursday 27 March, 6pm. Good luck to all our women players and we look forward to watching Souths promising players Ellerslie Hardwicke, and Rebecca Dunbar, both NT representative players.
