Slugger Cup

The Rabbits secured a 4 try bonus point away victory on Saturday v Palmerston Rugby Union Club. The final score was 27-10 after the Rabbits lead 17-10 at half time. It was a tightly contested battle for the Slugger Cup and the Palmie forwards flexed their muscle early on. There was no shortage of penalties and mistakes in the first half and new recruit Ian Aukoso showed his value by scoring the Rabbits first try before setting up Brad Hunt with a sublime offload just before half time.

The forward battle continued its intensity with Tom Wright succumbing to injury on half time. Enter the Lawrence brothers. Will and Jack split the 2nd half duties between them.

Fearless captain Toby George scored a crucial try and as the light faded, flying winger Marcus Maaka plucked an intercept on half way and scored in the corner to seal the victory. Best for Souths were David Boyle, Brad Hunt and Jack Briggs.

B Grade grabbed a 12 all draw on full time with Jack Lawrence scoring a 30 metre solo try. Once again the Rabbits struggled with a backline, ending the game again with forwards in the centres. Some of the older guys will be having intensive work on their hammys this week no doubt!!

Best for the Rabbits Jack Lawrence, Steven Eardley, Ralph Taperra and Richie Ward.

Souths take on Swampdogs next Saturday in B Grade and A Grade have the bye.
